The global MT Summit conference offers a special opportunity for technical interchange and business engagement. The 12th Summit will be held in Ottawa, Canada from August 26 to 30, 2009. In addition to our traditionally strong research and government user programming, we expand our commercial user program track to focus on human translator productivity and tools for translators. The Biennial International Association for Machine Translation Summit conference is hosted by each the three regional associations in turn. In 2007, the European Association for Machine Translation hosted the MT Summit conference in Copenhagen, Denmark. In 2011, the Asia-Pacific Association for Machine Translation will host an MT Summit conference in Asia.

Canada – a Leading Force in Translation Technology

Machine translation and translation technology have been strongly influenced by research, technology transfer, and entrepreneurial energy from Canada. Our location in Ottawa this year puts us in the hometown of the Canadian Translation Bureau, the National Research Council's Language Technologies Research Centre, and the University of Quebec in Outaouais, which will host our pre-conference tutorials on its campus.
